Biker
Dating
is the act
of going
out on
dates with
Bikers
whereby
one person
socializes
with a
potential
lover
using a
process
that
usually
involves
loud
pipes, a
Harley
Davidson
and a
mutual
interest
in one
another.
Typically
a Biker
may
date
different
partners
(this does
not
include or
indicate
the sexual
relationship)
during the
same time
period in
order to
have the
best
chance of
finding
their most
suitable
riding
partner
for an
intimate
relationship.
A biker
date
involves
going out
to do
something
together (like
having
dinner,
bike
rallies,
biker
parties,
poker
runs, etc.),
while
biker
dating
involves
the
continued
communication
and
courting
between
dates,
such as
meeting
on-line (like
on BikerMatchmaking),
chatting
on-line,
sending
text
messages
or picture
messages,
and
conversing
over the
phone. In
this
sense,
during the
biker
dating
process,
people
often
explore
each other
through
"dates"
to
discover
whether or
not they
would be
compatible
together
in a
serious
relationship
- which
for many
people
involves
the sexual
component
but
depends on
individual
beliefs
(Harley
vs.
Metric).
Usually,
if the two
individuals
discover
that they
have poor
or low
compatibility,
it signals
the end of
the biker
dating
process:
however,
due to the
multiple
person
dating
strategy a
person
ideally
has other
options to
explore.
Dating
a Biker
is
viewed by
some as
any social
activity
performed
as a pair
or even a
group of
riders
with the
aim of
each
assessing
the
other's
suitability
as their
partner as
a spouse.
The word
refers to
the act of
agreeing
on a time
and
"date"
when
riders can
meet and
engage in
some
social
activity
(Biker
Bar,
Rallies,
Cook-Offs,
Poker
Runs, Toys
for Tots,
etc.).
Going
out with a
Biker
is an
action
taken
after two
Bikers
discover
their
romantic
affection
for each
other.
This is
similar to
dating
though not
as in
depth.
This may
include
hugging
and
holding
hands,
filling
her gas
tank but
not
kissing,
usually
the step
before
dating.
In
many
cultural
traditions,
dates are
arranged
by a third
party, who
may be a
family
member, an
acquaintance,
or a
dedicated
Biker.
Recently
biker matchmaking
services
have
become
popular.
Although
dating
rules in
Western popular
culture
have
become
more
relaxed
during the
20th
century,
there is
considerable
variation
between
individuals'
values.
For
example,
when the
activity
costs
money, it
has
traditionally
been the
man's role
to pay; in
recent
times the
practice
of "going
Dutch"
(splitting
the
expenses)
has
emerged.
Traditional
biker
dating
activities
include
having a
cold one
after a
long ride!
U.S.
residents
spent
$469.5
million on
online
dating and
personals
in 2004,
and over
$500
million in
2005, the
second
largest
segment of
“paid
content”
on the
web,
according
to a study
conducted
by the
Online
Publishers
Association
(OPA) and
Score
Networks.
There are
over a
million Harley
riders
out there.
At
the end of
November
2004,
there were
844
lifestyle
and dating
sites, a
38 percent
increase
since the
start of
the year,
according
to Hitwise
Inc.
However,
market
share was
increasingly
being
dominated
by several
large
commercial
services,
including Yahoo!
Personals,
Match.com,
and eHarmony.
eHarmony
CEO Greg
Forgatch
noted that
despite
the
growing
number of
sites
catering
to
specific
niches,
"to
become a
major
player, it
still
takes a
large
number of
people.".
By 2007,
many
prominent
studies
show that Baby
Boomer
interest
in online
dating had
soared. BikerMatchmaking
has taken
the
leading
role in
bringing
hardcore
bikers
together,
more so
than any
other
biker
dating
personals
ad site.
In
2002,
a Wired
magazine
article
forecast
that,
"Twenty
years from
now, the
idea that
someone
looking
for love
without
looking
for it
online
will be
silly,
akin to
skipping
the card
catalog to
instead
wander the
stacks
because
'the right
books are
found only
by
accident.'
Serendipity
is the
hallmark
of
inefficient
markets,
and the
marketplace
of love,
like it or
not, is
becoming
more
efficient"
. As more
and more
Bikers
come on
line and
become
more
computer
"savy",
the better
they get
in writing
their biker
personal
ads.
Of late,
it is
common to
see online
biker
dating
websites
providing
web-cam
chats
between
biker
members to
make
dating
even more
convenient
than ever.
In
addition,
as the
online
dating
population
becomes
larger,
sites with
specific
demographics
are
becoming
more
popular as
a way to
narrow the
pool of
potential
biker
matches.
